Spreadsheets can be a useful way to supplement what you can do with other more specific tools. This page is a place for ideas and examples related to doing that. Want to learn about using Excel to import data from Toolkit or web pages? Click here. Click here to discuss spreadsheets on the NAIC Compuserve Forum. For a general purpose Excel add-in to download financial data, the SMF_Addin is worth checking out. Spreadsheets from Bob Adams. Click here. Bob has spreadsheets to analyze annual report financial statements (click here for a "workshop") as well as a spreadsheet to "follow your stocks". Financial Statement spreadsheet from Paul Schneider and Dan Hess. Click here (various versions). There is a spreadsheet for manufacturing companies and another for banks entitled banks.xls Spreadsheets from Jim Thomas. (Generally require Excel 2000 or later. Some require Toolkit v4 or v5 or v6.)
SSGrdr.xls is a version of Doug Gerlach's original that's been enhanced to show additional data from the SSG file and also do a few other things. Here is a partial list of enhancements.
scStockComparison.xls compares SSG data for multiple companies, using data downloaded automatically from StockCentral.com (data subscription or free trial required). TKPortfolio_mi.xls uses data from your ToolKit 4 or 5 database to aid you in your portfolio management using defensive and offensive techniques. It provides diversification information as well as a basic SSG visual analysis and a PERT Worksheet A. Other optional portfolio management aids are available, such as Quality and PAR evaluations imported from ManifestInvesting.com. Click here for a discussion of this spreadsheet (discussion of the most recent versions is at the end). EPSEstLTM.xls uses data from your ToolKit 4 or 5 database and looks to the internet based Zacks web site to produce EPS estimates for 12 months into the future for inclusion on the PERT Report. TKChallengerList.xls retrieves data from your Toolkit 4 or 5 database to show the same information that the ToolKit "Challenger" feature shows in its list of stocks. Club_vs_Index.xls allows you to determine if your club would have had better results if all the member investents had been made in the Vanguard Index 500 Fund (a no-load S&P 500 index fund). TSSW.xls performs both a "Take $tock" and an "SSG/PERT-A" analysis on a stock. Data can be imported from .SSG files, directly from Toolkit (not with Mac Excel) and can be copied/pasted from other sources (S&P or VL reports in PDF format, web sites). Also exports data in .SSG format. Imports current and historical (fiscal year) prices from Yahoo!. miParse.xls downloads "Dashboard" and "Fundamental Forecast" web pages from ManifestInvesting.com (a subscription web site). It facilitates experimenting with how changes in the number of shares would affect overall dashboard (i.e., portfolio) quality and future return potential. miJudgment.xls works with miParse to allow see how judgment changes on the Fundamental Forecast pages would affect dashboard quality and return potential. miAnalysis.xls is a demonstration of how to combine ManifestInvesting stock information (from miParse) with stock information from other sources (such as Toolkit and web sites). miDashboard.xls downloads a "Dashboard" web page from ManifestInvesting.com and produces various pie charts to help evaluate diversification. The sector diversification is based on Value Line sectors (but can be changed to use other industry groupings). ICL Wager spreadsheet. Click here. The ICL Wager has to do with whether doubling an initial investment over five years can be achieved by following a mostly mechanical approach based on the SSGs produced by NAIC Take Stock. Click here for a discussion of this spreadsheet. SSG Datafile Reader spreadsheet. Click here. Doug Gerlach created this spreadsheet with the goal of displaying all the information contained in a standard ".SSG" data file (much of which is ignored by typical SSG software). Doug also has a Preferred Procedure spreadsheet here (look for the download link at the end of the web page). See above for Jim Thomas' enhanced version of Doug's "SSG Datafile Reader" spreadsheet.
